Gazprom plans to sign in October a contract to supply additional volumes of gas to Poland. According to RIA Novosti, reported by the deputy chairman of Gazprom, the head of Gazprom Export, Alexander Medvedev on Thursday press conference in Buenos Aires, where he participates in the XXIV World Gas Congress (IGC).
“During the congress we have held meetings with representatives of the Polish company, from which we have received very positive signals. I think, in October, the work will be completed”, - said Alexander Medvedev.
The deputy chairman of the Board of the Polish Oil and Gas Company PGNiG Miroslav Dobrut in September said that PGNiG expects an agreement with Gazprom that will increase gas supplies to Poland by 2-3 billion cubic meters in 2010 - up to 10-11 billion cubic meters a year. The current contract provides for the export to Poland of 8 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia.
According to Medvedev, it is an addition to the intergovernmental agreement, which would be the legal basis for the supply of long-term basis. “At first, the legal framework in the form of supplements, and contract - a simple affair,” - said the deputy head of Gazprom.
He recalled that before Poland insisted on reducing the volume limit gas supplies in the intergovernmental agreement and then, literally the next day, bought the gas to Ukraine.
Poland currently consumes 14 billion cubic meters of gas annually, one third of consumption covered by own resources, the rest - at the expense of exports, 92% of which - Russia’s gas. As reported by M. Dobrut, in the medium term, Poland predicts an increase in gas consumption at 4.6 billion cubic meters per year.
