Peculiarities of travel to Poland on New Year
Posted by admin in Monday, March 14th 2011

Winter holidays are the peak winter tourist season. Therefore, due to the large influx of tourists, there are only package tours for New Year in Poland.

This year these are the packages from December 28 to January 3, and from January 4 to January 10 (subject to reduction of travel time).

If you want to go for 2 weeks - usually travel companies can combine these 2 packages.
But to choose an individual schedule for a trip on New Year in Poland during this period is difficult.

It is worth noting that in Poland the period of Christmas holidays continues from December 25 to January 2.

Poles prefer to celebrate Christmas (night from 24 to 25 December) at home, and in the morning on December 25 they try to go somewhere.

Therefore, the tours on New Year in Poland offer a unique opportunity for sightseeing in major cities from 31 December to 2 January.

An exception is the evening of 31 December, when people begin to gather in the central square and surrounding streets (each city is preparing its program for the New Year’s Eve).

That is why those who order the New Year dinner at a restaurant in the downtown area, should come a few hours before midnight, because later it will be overcrowded.

In the resort cities, on the contrary, December 24-26 and December 31-January 2 -are the days when there are lots of people.

Accordingly, there are a lot of skiers on the slopes.
When to go skiing?

New Year’s excitement ends on January 2 and before the third week of January, when students have their winter holidays, that’s the best period to go to the ski resorts.

However, in every Polish voivodship winter holidays are held at different times. It is so in order not to cause an overload of entertainment facilities, so that the students can relax without bothering each other.

So, after Christmas holidays there are not so many people at ski resorts.

Then from the second half of January and to first half of February, there is a massive influx of pupils and students at the resorts, who have their holidays. And from the second half of February until the end of the winter season, there is again a decrease in number of tourists.

Typically, snow, suitable for skiing, is preserved in the mountains until April, sometimes even until May.

Which ski resort to choose?

There is no ideal resort that would suit everyone in all parameters.

In major ski resorts such as Zakopane - there is a large choice of routes to all tastes, there is artificial lighting on the slopes, there are installations for artificial snow.

And there are much more people there, hence, there is a greater functioning capacity of down-runs, and you have to wait longer in line for the lift.

Small resort towns can not boast an abundance of trails, there may be no artificial snow. But there are fewer people on the down-runs, and although the number of lifts is less - the queues are shorter, and it is possible to ski much longer.

It is worth considering the fact that the routes for beginners, even at major resorts, are usually a little loaded.

Therefore, even with an influx of tourists, no one bothers the beginners. It is easier to get equipment in the large centers.
In addition, you can always try the tracks “for the experienced”.
