Posted by admin in Thursday, March 17th 2011

In Polish cities public transport is usually represented by buses and trams. There are also trolleybuses. In Warsaw, there is an underground.

Work hours of transport are from 5:00 to 23:00.
In the night there are night buses, which fees are 2 times more expensive.

The fare is usually 0.30 - 0.50 euro.
There are also discounted tickets (ulgowe) - used only by Polish school and college students. There are no fare discounts  for foreign children or students (only in Warsaw - ion presentation of student card ISIC).

There is extra fee for baggage.
Please also note that tickets for express bus are more expensive.

You can always buy tickets at newsstands.
Tell stallman: “Poprosze bilet komunikacji miejskiej” (ticket for public transport, please).

Note that in some cities, such as Poznan, there is time payment for travel, when you need to pay not for the fact of passage, but for time. There is one fee for up to 10 minutes, over this time the fare is 2 times more expensive.
In most cities, there are also tickets for 1 day, 3 days, a week.
Try asking in advance what payment system operates in the city, where you go.

Tickets must be validated immediately, rather than waiting for the next stop, as we have.
Passage or transportation of luggage without a valid ticket will be punished by a high fine.

Taxi

Taxi service operates in each city. The cars are waiting for passengers at special parking places, for example, railway stations, airports, in hotels. Each car has a sign “Taxi” and the phone number of the company.

Attention! If you have just arrived in town - do not use the services of drivers who approach you in the hall of the airport.

It is very convenient to order a taxi by phone to the address. Order of a taxi is free.

You can order a car either by phone number 919 (common for Poland), or find a number of other agencies - they are published in major newspapers and advertising leaflets.

When you make an order you should tell home address, where you’ll wait for the car, and your phone number (so that they could call you back). In large cities, the taxi arrives in 5-10 minutes.

When ordering a taxi by phone the passage will not be more expensive, but vice versa - it will be cheaper.

On weekends, the tariff increases outside the city limits and from 22 pm to 6 am. Payment for travel between cities is agreed with the driver.
